Village of Lawrence Water Reduction meter policy
The Village of Lawrence occasionally has available for sale, used water meters which serve as deduction meters, also called sprinkler meters or minus meters. These meters are available for sale on a first-come, first-served basis, provided that there are any available. Brand new meters can be ordered and the resident will be charged at full cost. The cost of a used meter is determined by the Village Council, and shall be listed on the Village’s adopted Fee Schedule.
Annual meter readings are due to the Village Hall by November 15th of each year, or the next business day if it falls on a weekend, or adjustments will not be made. “Carry-over” from year-to-year is not allowed for audit reasons. Meter readings can be called or mailed in; but, the Village Staff reserves the right to inspect a meter at any time and for any reason. Adjustments based on meter readings will be processed after January 1st of the following year.
The Village is not liable if the meter should break or malfunction for any reason. It is the resident’s complete responsibility to care for and maintain the meter, including sheltering it from winter weather. Brand-new spare or replacement parts can be ordered and the resident will be charged at full cost. If the Department of Public Works Staff should be needed to assist in repair of a meter, the resident will be charged a fee for labor at a minimum of one hour. A minimum one hour fee will be charged for the use of any equipment, as well. This policy was created 04/14/09. This webpage for this policy is considered an unofficial copy of the policy document.
