Village of Lawrence Water and Sewer Department

The Village of Lawrence supplies water throughout the village area. The water originates from 3 wells named well #1, # 2, and #4. Well #3 has been made inactive due to rising levels of naturally occurring arsenic. Water is pumped from these wells to our two water towers, where it is then dispersed throughout the village.
Our wastewater is collected and sent via 4 sewage pump stations to our wastewater settling ponds located at the north end of the Village. Storm and rainwater, snow melt water is collected via a separate storm drain system that discharges into the County Drain system, to Brush Creek and the Paw Paw River.
We ask to all residents in the Village who operate any basement sump pumps to not discharge their basement ground water (via sump pump) collected water into their household sewer lines. The sewage treatment center is sized only for sewage treatment, which ground water does not apply. The processing of unnecessary groundwater stresses the overall system, thus increasing electric costs at the pumping stations.
Water/Sewer cost -- The Village reads water meters and sends out water bills every 3 months (quarterly) . The residential charge at each quarterly bill is: $26.00 flat water fee + $26.00 flat sewer fee + $3.25 per 1000 gallons of water used + $3.10 per 1000 gallons of sewer usage. New proposed rates pending are: $30.00 flat water fee (13.3% increase), $30.00 flat sewer fee (13.3%) , $3.41per1000 water(4.4% increase) + $3.16per1000 sewer (1.9% increase).
Effective September 1, 2010 water sewer rates will increase to: $30 flat water fee + $30 flat sewer fee + $3.41 per 1000 / gallons + $3.16 per 1000/ gallons sewer. Water bills will also be read and billed monthly.
Water Reduction meters - - Residents are allowed to install a water meter for sprinklers and/or swimming pools. Installing this would reduce your sewer portion of your water bill since the water is not discharging into the sewer. Further information on this can be read here

Payment can be made by check or money order. Cash can only be accepted in bills $20 or less. They can also be paid online with a credit card at www.govpaynow.com.
