The Historic Lawrence Town Hall
This webpage is dedicated to the Lawrence Town Hall and its activities. It is one of 3 buildings in Lawrence listed in the State of Michigan register of historic sites.
The building, built in 1902 was put up for sale by the Lawrence Township Board of Trustees on October 9 2009. Community residents joined together with the attempt to form a plan to acquire it from the Township so that it would stay available for community use. A proposal of forming a community foundation was presented to the Township Board in 2009. The board agreed to hold the real estate listing, allowing time for the Foundation to form and organize a business plan. In June 2010 the Township Board and the Lawrence Town Hall Preservation Foundation negotiated an agreement for the Foundation to purchase the Town Hall from the Township
Lawrence Town Hall Preservation Foundation - - The Foundation is a non-profit public charity which would manage and maintain the building. Funding for the Foundation would be through pledge donations and grants. The Foundation meets every Saturday at the Lawrence Township Services Building ( fire station ) at 11:30 AM. Anyone interested in joining the meetings are welcome.
