 The Village of Lawrence, Michigan is a small, hometown community nestled at the center of Van Buren County. Lawrence is evenly distanced (2.5 hours) between Detroit and Chicago and boasts a variety of scenic agricultural farms and picturesque lakes, all within a few miles of the Village.  With direct access to I-94, it's a short drive to Kalamazoo, Detroit or Chicago for world-class universities, specialized health care, entertainment and shopping.

Lawrence is the hub for many of Van Buren County functions, including the Van Buren Technology Center, the Van Buren Conference Center, and the Van Buren County Road Commission.

With an active community volunteer base, there are many family-oriented annual celebrations and festivals, including the Labor Day Weekend Ox Roast & Homecoming Festival. Lawrence Public Schools provide students with an excellent K-12 educational opportunity in a safe, nurturing setting and offer a host of extracurricular activities including many competitive athletic programs.

 


New Retail Store NOW OPEN !!

Shop On The Way opened May 1 at the site next door to the Seeded Earth.  Mary James, owner of Shop On The Way, will be selling Vintage Resale items, regional handcrafts, and bake sale items. There will be also be studio areas within the store dedicated to local artists. Mary hopes to create a shopping environment to complement the offerings in the Seeded Earth and Brush Creek Antiques, and to help promote Lawrence as a shopping and eating destination.

Notice of Surplus Equipment Sale 

The Village of Lawrence currently has a used 1990 Ford L9000 Dump Truck in which they consider surplus equipment and are therefore soliciting bids on. The truck was purchased used in 1998 and was used by the village Department of Public Works for plowing and hauling activities. The truck includes a 12 ft. underbody scraper blade and a 5 yd. dump body. Additional information includes: Single axle, rear rims & spacers replaced 1 year ago, automatic transmission, both underbody hydraulic cylinders rebuilt approx. 6 months ago, whole new front axle and parts installed 2 years ago, has a Cummins diesel engine.The speedometer & odometer do not work so actual mileage is not available.

This truck is being sold “AS-IS”.

Interested parties should submit a bid in a sealed envelope clearly marked “Ford L 9000 Dump Truck ” to the Lawrence Village Hall located at 157 North Paw Paw St. PO Box 217, Lawrence MI. 49064.

The truck can be seen by appointment only by calling the Village Hall Office at 269-674-8161.

Bids must be received at the Village Hall no later than 5:00pm on March 29, 2013 to be considered.

Sealed bids will be opened at the Village’s Public Service Committee meeting at the Village Hall at 6:00pm on April 3, 2013. A recommendation of award will be made by the committee to the Village Council at their regular meeting at 7:00pm on April 9, 2013.

The Village reserves the right to reject any and all bids.

John Utter 1942-2013

The Lawrence area lost one of its outstanding citizens on January 26,2013

John Utter was devoted to our community, serving on the Fire Department, the Ox Roast Committee, and the Lawrence Township Board. 

John was also a member of the Hess-Eastman Post 174, Lawrence Lions Club, the Black River Amateur Radio Club, and two tractor clubs.  

His contributions and presence in Lawrence will continue to be missed.
